UDAF Offers Free Pesticide Disposal Event

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) will host a free pesticide collection event October 14, 2026 at a UDOT road shed in Salt Lake City, providing farmers, agricultural producers, pesticide professionals, and residents an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or unusable pesticides.

“UDAF is committed to providing practical services that make a difference for Utah agriculture and our communities,” said UDAF Commissioner Kelly Pehrson. “This program provides a simple, no-cost solution for unwanted pesticides while helping protect Utah’s farmland, communities, and natural resources.”

Since 2018, UDAF has collected more than 60 tons of pesticide waste through collection events held in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Clean Harbors Environmental Services.

Improper storage and disposal of pesticides is a serious environmental and public health concern. Since pesticides are hazardous and cannot be disposed of through standard waste collection services, residential pesticide users must work with their closest Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center or other services to manage safe disposal. Safe disposal can be particularly challenging for agricultural and commercial pesticide users, who cannot use residential household hazardous waste programs. The

UDAF collection event is a straightforward, convenient drop-off event that encourages participation from those who have not been able to safely dispose of pesticides for any reason and protects our communities, farmland, and waterways from hazardous chemical exposure.

UDAF will accept all unwanted, unusable, expired, or degraded waste pesticides. This includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, and other similar chemicals. No other waste products will be accepted, including fertilizers without an integrated pesticide.
